Richo created the topic: Flagging/marshalling in Queensland?
Ive been in Queensland for about a year now and wanting to get involved in the sport a bit more so was thinking about race marshalling. Anyone know of the relevant organisation that covers that in Queensland and who would be the best person to contact regarding that? I bring no skills to the table apart from four working limbs and a great passion for motorsport so I'm sure I can find something I'm good at within the field.

Any help appreciated

Hi Richo,
Great news that you would like to volunteer your services.
I suggest that you check the Queensland Motor Racing Officials Association website (qmroa.com.au) for information and contact details for Adrian Fuller the current President.
Our banana bender mates have a long history of service to the sport and usually have a contingent participating at the various Mt Panorama events-they reckon it's because Qld tracks are flat and fields are generally a lot smaller but we know it's because they come for the decent beer!

As a very long time official we welcome you with open arms-it is very hard attracting volunteers prepared to stand out in the weather, work stupidly long hours, get abused by drivers, spend a lot of money each year getting around to events and try to juggle family life as well....but we love it!!

Too old for women so it's cars and truffles from now on.

I'm just curious as to what positions would be available to him as he'd still want to drink all day :)

Statistically most "rock spiders" have spent some time in their lives as a church youth group leader.
Think about that.

CAMS have booze testers at most events lately so Richo could find a spot there--no wait it is not testing the booze unfortunately it's detecting the stuff!
After a long hard day he will appreciate the couple at the completion of the event.

But how am I supposed to detect alcohol if I don't test it first so I know what to look for? :P

In all seriousness thanks Chatswood for pointing me in the right direction. I'll be in touch with the guys and girls from QMROA shortly.

Cheers Miguel you're too kind. I would like to do some of that stuff but it would have to be all or nothing. I don't have the spare time or money to follow a championship around the country.

You can focus just on your local track and start from there. Kinda like what we do with the Nürburgring. Of course the Ring makes it easy on us with the best GT3 championship in the world happening solely there, but still, that's our home.

Lakeside still exists? Then you should definitely go there, looks like a beautiful track.

Its still running strong-mainly club racing these days. Great track that bites those who underestimate it.

Maybe I should take my new Golf Gti there...
